Spotty Posting This Weekend

Just a head's up that there may or may not be Lactivist updates this weekend. My mom called this morning to let me know that my grandmother had passed away last night.

Yes, it's sad, but it's also a relief, it's been a horrific couple of years as her mind went and she decided that she didn't want to live anymore so she'd do her best to make everyone around her miserable. In other words, the grandmother that I know "died" about six years ago, it's just her physical body that's gone now.

I expect we'll be out of town until at least Monday, though I'll have my laptop with me, so we'll see. Blogging is always a good escape, but I also expect we'll be busy with family stuff, so you'll probably either see nothing from me, or marathon posting.

One note...about ten years ago I wrote a letter to my grandparents telling them how much I loved and respected them and sharing the amazing memories that I'd created in my years growing up with them. Looking back, I'm so glad that I did that when they were both still in a mental state that let them read and understand what I was saying. If you've got loved ones in your life and you've never done that...give it some thought. It sure makes death easier when there aren't things that you wish you'd said.

    My condolences.

My grandfather lost his mind before he died last year, so I know how difficult this can be on everybody.

It's wonderful that you wrote that letter. Makes me want to do the same.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. Your family will be in my prayers.

The letter idea was an excellent one. I did something similar for my mother before she passed away and I, also, was so glad I had.

Jen, Just a note to say I'm thinking of you and what you did all those years ago was such a thoughtful thing to do. I'm sure your grandparents were thrilled. God Bless.

    Jennifer,
I'm sooo sorry to know you've lost someone so special to you. I'll say a prayer for both of you.

The idea of the letter is really a beautiful one. I hope it moves some of your readers to do the same. I lost my really, really beloved sister last July but had time to tell her how much she meant to me. The pain would have been much worse if I hadn't let her know how much I loved her.

Please accept this long-distance hug and condolences.

Oh Jenn, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. That letter you wrote is a great idea. I'm going to do that. My grandfather passed in Africa last year completely unexpectedly. If there's anything I can do or help with, please let me know.

I hope your weekend goes well too. It is great to hear what you did for your grandparents long ago. Although I don't really know my grandparents, there is a lot I admire about them. This is some good advice.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My mom has written letters to each of us on our most recent birthdays, telling us each why she was glad we were born :) This includes my daughters, her granddaughters. I can tell you the letters are much appreciated and I'm sure your grandparents loved receiving yours.
