Babies "R" Us Breastfeeding Fair

It's nice to see that the Toys "R" Us Folks have learned something from the Times Square incident and are now working as a corporation to support breastfeeding.

Or, perhaps they simply learned some lessons from the Wal-mart "Nutrition and Infant Feeding Seminar."

Either way, Lactivist reader Heather Dornbusch dropped me an email to point out that Babies "R" Us is advertising a "Breastfeeding and Maternity Fair" on April 14th. The copy of the ad reads...

Join us as we showcase the latest information on breastfeeding and maternity services. Enjoy hands-on demonstrations of the latest innovative breastfeeding products from today's top brands. Babies "R" Us has the biggest and best selection of breastfeeding essentials and we're here to get you started!

I hope it's really pro-breastfeeding and not one of those "the breast is best, but here's what to buy if it doesn't work" type things. I'm going to think positive on this one. From breast pumps to breastfeeding pillows to nursing pads to nursing wear, there are certainly plenty of items for them to push while still being supportive of breastfeeding.

I'll be on my way back from a conference in New York City that weekend, so I won't be able to make it. I do hope that if any Lactivist readers swing in to see what it's all about they'll drop me a line and let me know how they did.

we have BRU fairs here to. i think it is up to each store and whomever is coordinating it, but one of our local doulas and LLL leaders is doing some of the talks.

I handle store promotions for Babies "R" Us in Massapequa Park, NY (Long Island). For the Breastfeeding & Maternity Fair at my store we will have representation from 2 local hospitals, a lactation consultant, an OB/GYN, a Doula and many more. Babies "R" Us has always been pro-breastfeeding. I have been with BRU for 7 years and have had countless Breastfeeding seminars. We hold them every other month with a Lactation Consultant. You can't judge a company by the actins of a few employees.

If you have any questions about the event you can reach me at 631-255-1057.

Anonymous, thanks for swinging in and for sharing that info.

I'm really glad to see Babies "R" Us doing this...the Times Square incident was handled poorly, but I'm glad to see that an arm of the company is really working hard to support breastfeeding.

    Kudos to you guys. :)

The "Times Square Incident" was a Toys R Us not a Babies R Us. I have shopped at Babies R Us for 9 years and three kids and have found them to be the only store to offer not only a place to breastfeed but a nice and relaxing private place to breastfeed with a couch and quiet lighting.
