Am I the only one who finds this to be incredibly disturbing? This show simply HAS to be from somewhere in the Netherlands or Iceland or some other "land". OMG me too, Jenn. I really don't think it's from some foreign country because I found a video clip of Biz Markie doing "Biz's Beat of the Day" for that show. I loved Biz's "Just a Friend" and it makes me a lil sad to see him doing this show.
Oh and hades will freeze over before my sons watch that show.
I don't know... They've obviously done their market research - my 5yo abandoned "Zack and Cody" to come watch when he heard the jingle start up. And you can bet I'll be reminding him that the broccoli we serve for dinner tonight want's to join the party in his tummy!
ohhhh WOW. It looks like it's supposed to be one of those dark-humor children's show parodies that you expect to see on Adult Swim or something...I keep waiting for the trees to attack that stripey dude and the blood and mayhem to begin...or something.

Sure, my kids get plenty of screen time. They aren't deprived. But I'm SO thankful when I see things like that, that we don't have TV. (No judgment of moms who do--just saying I don't think I could deal.)
Now my questions have been answered about what Teletubbies would have been like with a funky hip hop beat.
I imagined a more realistic party in his tummy where his food was burnt alive by his stomach acid which (in humans anyway) has a pH of about 2. For y'all who didn't pay attention in chemistry, the lower the number the more acidic it is.

Oh. My. Gosh. I could only get as far as the crying carrots. I'm done. My husband is from "the Old Country," and you should see some of the stuff he watched as a kid. I bet this is from a "land" place! I think we'll be sticking to happy little DVD's.
It's grown on me. Especially since I convinced Henry to eat some chicken (after a 48 hour stretch of just yogurt) by telling him the chicken wanted to go to the party in his belly.
Oh my G-d! I actually emailed Noggin to complain that it was annoying, among other things. Needless to say, no one wrote me back.
I showed this to a co-worker that had just brought her 7 year old daughter up to the office for a minute. Her daughter saw it and said "Oh I've seen that before." Apparently she saw it on the Nick.com site when playing around at home on her mom's computer. I can't get the dang song out of my head!
I think that is the single most frightening thing I have ever scene in my life. I am just praying it doesn't suck kids in like that darn purple dinosaur did.

yo gabba gabba i think outranks wonderpets for "please shoot me in the foot if it gets turned on, an emergency room visit is preferable to this torture". hubby says it is horrible because it's encouraging over-eating for the social needs of the food instead of hunger.

The worst part of it all was when he ate the chicken with the bone in! Hopefully kids won't do the same, though one of my uncles think he's tough and eats the bones to show off.

We watched this with our son Matthew and he totally grooved with the beat. I have no problem letting him see it, and I think the message is great!

HOLY CRAP! are you guys KIDDING? It is awesome! Tim Biskup and Paul Frank designed the characters for this and have helped with the music and writing. This is a kid's show made by artists, not morons wanting to turn a buck, or "child education specialists" that produce bland mediocre crap. Dear god do some research on things before you slam them into the ground. I bet you negative nancies just love Dora and Backyardigans don't you?

oh man, Noggin is teh awesome. i can't believe some of the posters here would rather have their kids watching disney channel or commercial -sponsored television. and why is it sad that Biz Markie is getting a paycheck and helping kids? finally, whoever was bagging on Wonder Pets needs to get their head checked. those little guys are fantastic. they save little animals, for crying out loud, and introduce kids to opera. man, oh man, i worry about parents today.

I love this idea for a show, it may stick in your head but it stays in the kids heads. When my daughter was potty training and she was having a "hard" time we sang "keep trying keep trying don't give up don't stop!" They love it.
It helps that I'm from SoCal and know half the people working and performing in it.

growing up outside NYC and listening to HipHop non-stop I like the show too! all of the music seems to be early hip hop themed.

I am excited for the show! I did a little research and found out that the creators of the show are two guys that are cousins and dads that are trying to make a living for their families. It's pretty cool to actually see the American dream coming true for families out there. It isn't just some monopolized, manufactured junk forced down our kid's throats. These are dads who know what kids are going to like. I can appreciate that! So tune in on Monday! I can't wait!
HA! Guess what, the creators of this show are my cousins. They have been developing this show for about 2 years. And I am lucky enough to say I own an original copy of the pilot they filmed back in February of 2006. If you only knew the preparation that went into this show. And if you only knew that the guys that created this show are dads, and really good dads at that. This show is so much better than all the animated garbage on television these days. Any show that is going to get my kids to get up and dance like nobody is watching has my vote, whether my family made it or not.

My 4 year old daughter is absolutely in love with it. I sat and watched it with her and when I saw ELIJAH WOOD doing the puppet dance ... I almost fell out of my seat it was so funny. But my baby loves it so hey ... I'm all for it.
Look into the band called The Aquabats. That's where much of this shows inspiration came from. It is weird, yes, but anyone who's familiar with The Aquabats and these guys' senses of humor knows that it comes from a very positive place. Just give it a try, you'll like it.
i had the misfortune of catching it this morning while channel surfing. it freaks me out, too...and yet i can't get the songs stuck out of my head...
We watched the first episode today. Even my 3-year old wasn't interested. Yo Gabba Gabba teaches absolutely nothing, the music is the same beat over and over and over, and the only reason I could see that Nick Jr. would take on this show was for merchandising and possible amusement park characters. I was so shocked to see this show on Nick Jr. that I immediately scanned the credits to see if people such as Jennifer Twomey, etc. were involved. I wasn't surprised to see the usual names NOT associated with this project.
Absolutely awful! We'll be tuning to a different station during this time slot.
I've changed my mind. I loooove Yo Gabba Gabba and think it is the bomb. I will subscribe to cable just for this channel!
Long armed striped monsters do not scare me at all and I think it's great that they eat their food whole and that the food parties in its tummy.

Okay, I have to comment now! I read your blog when it was originally posted and thought... a little creepy, but nice beat... I wasn't sure if I would allow my 17 m.o. to view it... but didn't think anything of it... until today. After the TiVo stopped recording Blues Clues, we left it on to watch a little Wonder Pets... and then "IT" came on... I have to mention that the best part of the whole show you showed in the YouTube clip. The best "beat" came from the "party in my tummy" clip. The others weren't very unique... only repeated itself in a not so rhyming way... and they sorta scared her a little. I could go on about the bad costumes and that the lipsyncing was off... but I have better things to do with my daughter right now. I just felt I had to put my two cents in... and NO, we will not be showing it again in this household. Sorry to the creators, but it still needs a little work!
BTW we are a HUGE Between the Lions fans! That stays on the TiVo and is her #1 show!

Tried to give this show a chance today. My 23 month old guy absolutely HATED it -- he whined thru the episode and kept leaving the room & taking my hand to make me leave too. Interestingly, this was the same reaction he used to have to Lazytown. It just freaks him out.
Personally our big favorites are Jack's Big Music show (never get tired of watching it for the millionth time) and the Upside Down show (though it took some time for that to grow on us.)
If I wake up at 4 a.m. with "snacky snack snack snack" in my head, I'm going to lose it!!
I loved it and I'm a 67 year old grandfather.

The show totally freaks me out, but previous posts are right, they have done their market research on this one! My 2 & 4 year old were mezmerized by it! It reminds me of the first time I saw tellitubies! I just do't get it!! Totally Freaky!
Just tuned in this morning with my 3 yr old daughter and I feel as though I wish we never got out of bed!! This is a terrible show! My daughter seemed to like it, but I think the characters are scary looking and the jingle and tunes are quite annoying. I almost feel as though they are trying to mock the parents and really annoy us. I hope my daughter doesn't remember that it was ever on, because I don't think I will ever put it on again!
The host of this show is an old friend of mine from St. Louis, MO. and he happens to be a warm, friendly, fun-loving person. I don't understand what is so upsetting about the show. It's no different from Fraggle Rock, or the Muppet Show, or Buggs Bunny. Lighten up people. It's for the kids.
Let me start by saying that my toddler loves this show. I have to be honest though-to me it's like the creators were tripping on LSD and thought it would be fun to create a children's show. Craaaaaaaaaaazzzzyyyyy! My daughter totally responds to it though, dances around and smiles like crazy. It's fun to watch her having such fun.

The show was semi-created by a lead member of a band The Aquabats (which travis barker was formally the drummer for) The Aquabats are a sweet band (im going to see them this weekend) the show is essentially a show about music, in the first episode Elijah Wood and The Shins were on it, it is an amazing premice for a show in a world where music programs are depleting.
My family is split. I find it hilarious, my wife can't stand it, and my 22 month old is mesmerized. She doesn't see much television.
What's the deal with "Mr. Frodo" beaming in to do a weird dance?
One thing is for sure, my little mouse and I had a good half hour of dancing and jumping out of it.
We vary our TV viewing by what the kids want to watch, with my overseeing seal of approval.
My 4 and 2 year old aren't hot on Dora; but my 2-yr old son LOVES Diego and yells the names of every animal he sees (on and off the screen). The most annoying part of those shows is that they do seem to be "yelling" at their watchers.
Both of my kids, and I, love the Backyardigans, and I've seen my 4-yr old daughter start up great imaginative stories based off of their story lines.
When Yo Gabba Gabba came on yesterday, my son left the room, and my daughter kind of glazed over. The characters are cute, and I know it's "educational"; but I don't know how impressed we are with it... yet.
I, too, love Between the Lions, and Peep and the Big Wide World.
And hey, think about what was out there in the early '70's. We had Romper Room, Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, The Electric Company...and Bugs and Bullwinkle.
Things change. We have to do our part to help our kids pick the good stuff AND what they like as well. Enjoy that we have a lot to choose fom!
Very odd... mostly that a Major Network is finally running an original, non-formulaic, homegrown, kids show.
I don't understand. Yeah it's a different show but it takes you back to the Pee Wee Herman days. I loved Pee Wee as a kid and this show has kind of got that same "funky" style to it. My 16 month old and 4 yr old love this show and it's actually helped my 4 yr old try new foods. Like the show says, "I tried it and now I like it."
I think this show is hilarious and I even enjoy watching it myself.
It's not the songs that bother me about this show...its the characters. Everything seems like such a throw back to the 70's and early 80's kids programming. There were a lot of great shows back then, but we've come a long way in terms of the visual quality that can be produced. And that main guy...the dude that wears the orange wig with his long sideburns showing...what is his deal? He looks like the guy from the Dee-Lite "Groove Is In The Heart" music video!!
I just don't get it. My kids are almost 3, 5 and 8 and are all kind of lukewarm to the show. They don't get to watch much TV at all so they LOVE to watch, but after about 10 minutes of Yo Gabba Gabba, they are all tired of it. I just think its a weird looking show with freaky looking creatures on it.
YGG makes me want to bust out the SL1200's and rock some incredible 80s punk. It is so cool-pop-culture beat-ridden excellence. I love the 8bit bleep segways in-between each of the skits. All of the songs are precision excellence.
Yo Gabba Gabba is made just outside of Hollywoodland. It is inspired by Sid & Marty Krofft, Seseme Street & the Electric comany from the '70s. If you are breeding I hope your kids sneek and watch the show so they aren't boring conservative clucking hens and they can dance and learn without worring if a monster chews his food. I personally find the show a little weird. . .and I hate having the "Snacky snack snack" song running thru my head at 3 am. but my kids love it, and after awhile it grows on ya. (kinda like the Wiggles!) Sometimes the things that annoy us as parents (weird characters,endless repetition, etc. . .)are the things that kids LOVE the most and are more eager to learn from. So quit picking all these kids shows apart and get on board and have some fun ... enjoy some silly time with your kids.
Before kids I said i would never let them watch Teletubbies or Barney and now we have a DVD library. Boohbah...please I still believe has subliminal messages or something because I just dont get. But the kids do. I have 2 boys ages 4 and 5 thet are on the autism spectrum. Ever since these commercials for Yo Gabba Gabba have been on they have been trying to sing the songs and getting really excited to dance to the music. Now the costumes are a little freaky but I can "break it down" with the boys to the music. I got them to try a vegetable and get off the couch and move....Now 10 or 12 years ago it problably would have been a little freaky to watch being high but now I am just enjoying the boys watching it and dont feel like I have to check their pulse like after Kipper
Sorry to say, I actually like it...er..my daughter does. This is the only show I have seen her get up and dance too, and really thats not a bad thing!
Seriously. This show is totally rad (thanks 80's). I challenge you to watch a whole episode and come away with the same feelings. Netherlands...sheesh!
I like it! xD My sisters love it. I watch it with them. I definitely think it's better than a lot of shows out there like Dora (if I have to watch Dora the Explorer one more time I will stab myself in the eyeballs) or Go Diego Go (which incidentally is Dora's cousin). It's not foreign, either. I like it because it is weird and freaky xD But Wonderpets is definitely strange. I don't know why everyone thinks speech impediments are "cute," they are not a good thing. But the show definitely helps my sisters brush their teeth, eat their veggies and clean up their toys. All we have to do is sing the song! *Raise your knee, raise your other knee* I love the characters as well. They are really cute! I don't know about D.J. Lance... He's... Interesting.

All I can say is, I thought it was Japanese, too, but my autistic son LOVES it, and is able to process the material because it's so musical, and because it is repetitive. Any show that teaches MY kid to eat food, and lessons about social interaction is a godsend in my book.
It seems harmless, but it isn't. My last child who is 14 yrs old loved Barney. During my last Reiki attunement, my guardian angel came to me as a big purple alien monster. Needless to say, I'm no longer doing much Reiki. This is YEARS after Barney. So there won't be any stripey monstors singing a rap tune "join the party in my tummy" in my living room.
What is most freaky to me is this thread. I've been coming to this blog for a year, and I've never seen so many anonymous posts in apparent support of something the blogger expresses an opinion about. Its as if YoGabbaGabba people suddenly are coming out of the walls.
I don't care if half the people posting here are the creators' cousins. If something sticks in my head that much after one viewing, well, that's that. Humanity survived without it this long...my baby will be okay without it too.
Well we watched YGG while eating supper last night. My 2.5 year old daughter said why isn't he eating (chewing) his food? She is a little ahead of the game sometimes with her observations, so it didn't bother me that she noticed that. She also noticed that the chicken was just like her chicken (that she had for supper a few nights ago). The songs are catchy, the characters are cute. So, we will let it play at our house. Of course she did want to watch Little Bear before YGG was over. That is proably an attention span thing though. Considering that Max and Ruby and Dora are some of our favorites too, and Booh Bahs and Barney are a thing of the past (for my kids anyway), any new non-cartoon characters are high on my list.
I do find the numerous anonymous posts interesting. I do not think they are random, but Jenn, you know marketing is important, even if you have to get your cousins to do it for you. ;)
Yo Gabba Gabba is the WORST SHOW EVER!!!
It is a shame that they hyped this show up for soooo long, and it only managed to be a total flop in my eyes. The show unlike the other Nick shows lacks continuity. For instance, the "Wonder Pets" theme--teamwork; the "Backyardigans" --imagination, "Go, Diego Go!" --learning new things in nature. Yo Gabba Gabba has so much going on that it's hard to tell what's going on. Moreover, the show does not adequately teach lessons; it merely cites an idea/moral/concept and uses music as a lame attempt to drag it throughout the show.
All in all, this show is terrible, and I hope it gets cancelled soon and very soon!

it's great to see lots of lovers and haters of yo gabba gabba out there. nothing groundbreaking is going to make it without some resistence. people usually resist good change
it's good that we all don't like the same thing though, you can't enjoy the good programming without experiencing some of the crap out there.
the kids will choose. and whether we like it or not, kids will be growing up with yo gabba gabba for a long time.
I have read through this blog and I am pretty suprised to hear the negative response. I am assuming that most of the posters are older than 30, or had no exposure to subculture in their youth. The creator of the show is the lead singer and creator of wacky ska band, the Aquabats. I was a big fan of the bats in the mid 1990's and my wife's band opened for them countless timesMy wife;s bands drummer is still pretty good friends with them. We stumbled upon the show by accident and after seeing the Aquabats perform on the show we did some research. I find the show really refreshing. It is so cool to see my 3yo playing his drums with the Aquabats and getting into music that my wife and I have always loved. I mean look at the guests! Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo teaches drawing, The Aquabats, The Aggrolites, Biz Markie! Characters designed by Paul Frank. It doesn't get much better. I guess you just have to have the same mindset as the Aquabats to get the show. I have seen the Aggrolites plenty of times in concert and was totally floored to see them on a kids show. One poster mentioned that the show doesn't teach anything. I beg to differ. The show doesn't teach ABC's or math or any academic subjects, but it is great at teaching social skills. Something I feel is severely lacking in both education and children's TV. BTW, I am a high school teacher and I see lack of social skills in youth on a regular basis. I personally think this show is the best thing to happen to children's TV since Sesame Street in the '70's. It's nice to see some alternative thinking on TV for kids, I guess that this show is for the children of ex-punkers and rudies, or just those with a love for alternative culture. I really wouldn't expect mainstream soccer moms to get the show, but I am glad it is on the air. YO! GABBA, GABBA!
Yo Gabba Gabba is fun. It is on Nick Jr. w/ commericals on Noggin. My favorite is Maisy. Lazytown was a little scary for my 3 yr old. Sesame Street still rocks the house. Dora and Diego taught my son how to count in spanish and say some words. The Wonderpets are cute and save the animals but why do they have speech impediments?
This is like preschool-punk rock. It's co-creator is Christian Jacobs from the band The Aquabats. He also appears on the show as the Bat Commander (super hero theme). The have cool music, an 80's throwback feel and Biz is on it. It's awesome. My toddler just found it and loves it.
I can't believe how uncultured some of you people are here. Paul Hoeprich is the only one who knows what's going on. This show is fun and silly. Wacky and out there. It will not harm anyone's kid, rather they may grow up with a sense of humor that their parents lack.
WOW... won't this ever stop? There are some hard core defenders out there... give me a break! It isn't very musical, for being created by musically inclined people... "lift your leg... lift your other leg" is more of a chant then a song. And the little dance skits (of the children dancing) don't last long enough for my daughter to start dancing... as soon as she does, it stops.
The creators could be the nicest people on the planet, but I am still not going to encourage my child to watch it... which is such a bummer since I'm a huge fan of hip hop and music with a beat!
And to those who start bashing those who put a negative comment, get over it, it's a show and not personal... (as some are making it out to be)! And so what if this blog started before it aired... the YouTube clip (and possibly commercial promos) was the basis of her original opinion.
A few things:
1. It gives me the idea that anyone could create a show for kids (or write a book) and encourage others to follow their dreams.
2. It looks like the characters were possibly created for mass-marketing potential (aka merchandising).
3. Let's try to be positive and maybe try think of ways the show can be improved.
Okay, I have to admit, this show doesn't freak me out so much as it annoys me to no end. But the first day we watched it (this past Monday--6th day of the show I think), Nour stood and watched the entire thing. She was fascinated, but the next day, she couldn't have cared less about it. She loves watching Dora and Diego, and even goes up to the TV and points at the things they ask about. Yeah, we watch too much Nick Jr.
But in one way I prefer Yo Gabba Gabba, because it doesn't have small children fraternizing with dangerous animals... what are they trying to teach our kids, anyway?!!
I like that she learns about animals, but the idea that kids are "safe" with jungle animals and such disturbs me a little. (Aside from the talking to the animals like Dr. Doolittle.)
I was fully prepared to hate on YGG, but I actually watched it and I have to say..........I love it. There is just something about it that is TRULY engaging, not just your typical loud, blinky bullshit you see on shows like Dora. AND............The Shins are supposed to be on it at some point in the season!!! *fangirl squee!*

As a little older mom (Mid 30's), I think the show is great. You have no idle growing up watching the Bannana Split Gang. My child at 4 told me to come watch this show with her. Not something she does often. I think they did a good job, because my child loves the songs and really wants to enjoy them with me. I look forward to many more shows and the DVD's to come out.
regarding Wonder Pets, what got it banned from our household was my hubby (who is Chinese) catching the episode with the Panda who had soy sauce on her...er... "person". Feeding the Asian stereotypes, combined with Ling-Ling's stereotypical lisp, was too much for him (and in our household, "this is SEEWEOUS" since I'm the only Caucasian of 4 adults and 2 kiddos).
That, and talking photo-realistic animals only freak me out SLIGHTLY less than when they animate the mouths of real animals in an updated version of Mister Ed. I think someone told me they were torturing the horse or something when I was a kid, talking animal shows/movies have weirded me out for a long time, tho I'm sure I heard "later" that they just gave the horse peanut butter to get him to move his mouth.
Oh, and we're pretty much PBS all day, every week day, at least when the TV is on. Every once in a while I'll switch to Nick Jr. when it's on (a friend's child hooked mine on Blue's Clues... and.... um... Joe is pretty easy on the eyes ;) Steve getting into college is such a joke tho - seriously, he needs his notebook and a thinking chair to figure out duck duck goose? Umm... dude... one plus one is two, get that one figured out before you apply to Yale, OK?). Dora's parents should go to jail for child neglect and Diego's aren't much better.
I first thought YGG looked kinda weird, yet interesting enough for me to set my DVR to record it from the beginning just based on curiuosity from the preview commercials.
At first the style of the show reminded me of foreign children's programs too, but after seeing all the American guest artists I figured I was wrong.
Anyways, my 3 and 4 yr old girls LOVED IT from the get-go, and so far they still do. YGG seems to have a pretty good feel for what kids these ages like - funny, huh?
And all of those songs and chants they sing are totally catching and sticking in my head! (Eat up your snack, and drink up your water! Eat up your snack, and drink up your water!).
BTW I've been doing my own bit about veggies wanting to join the "party in your tummy" LONG before we ever watched this show, and it's always worked well for getting my girls to eat their peas and carrots. I'm glad others are getting to make use of this technique as well :-)
Oh, and my girls and I ADORE Max and Ruby, but in the beginning my 4yr old kept insisting that Ruby was the mommy since she always takes care of Max and no mommy is ever mentioned.

Peep is not at all irritating, it's smart, funny, there's nothing at all objectionable, and the theme song is the best! it's on Discovery Kids - check it out!
YGG is absolutely charming. I, too, was a little indignant when the first episode opened with brobee sucking down his chicken legs, bone and all, but at the end of Week 1 I can say the whole family (3.5 yr old boy and two 40-something parents) is hooked. The "Sleep" episode is a delight and full of beautiful music, marred only by the jarring incongruity of the random "Moochie and Pootie" appearance that has nothing to do with, well, sleep. I totally get the whole '80s - Atari - HipHop sensibility of the show, but so far, I can do without Moochie and Pootie altogether. Keep it coming! And bring on the merchandising!
Are you people serious? It's a kid's show for PRE SCHOOLERS. You're complaining about annoying? Look in the mirror. It has basic principles, current music and interesting characters that are 100x less annoying than Barney.

I find it downright hysterical that people are so up in arms about a children's tv show. It's not even a controversial show...it's just a show that some folks like and some don't.

If you don't want to hear responses on the subject, don't bring it up! Then the self-congratulatory "haahaha my funny little post is driving all these comments" and "my stamp of approval" nonsense. My 17 mo son loves this show. It's the only show that holds his interest for the entire duration. I too had a negative knee-jerk reaction when I first saw the characters, however after watching a couple of episodes I'm completely on board. This show doesn't have a bad bone in it's body. It's just good-hearted silly fun. In fact I'd be willing to bet that those here that are so negative toward YGG just need more hugs and high fives! =) When a YGG episode begins and DJ Lance starts walking across the screen with his big colorful boom box my son looks at me with a HUGE, open mouthed smile of joy on his face.

I saw teasers for YGG and was instantly repelled, expecting it to ba a bad ripoff of the already disturbing Teletubbies. But my wife saw some of it when it firat sired and said it wasn't what I had thought. Now my girls like it, and now that I've seen a whole episode, I begrudingly accept it.

A single YGG show is one whole concept, the one I've seen is Sleep.
There are some shows we have banned: Spongebob, Arthur, Fairy Godparents, RugRats... Mainly because of their celebration of awful behavior patterns.
My girls are 4 and 5, and another toy we've banned is Bratz, also for it's glorification of 4$$#0lism...

I think the show is from Aquabania. A small island rulled by the dictator only known as Space monster M. And the show rocks! Any kids show with The Shins, Elijah Wood, The Aquabats and the Aggrolittes is amazing.
I can only hope this blog turns up in the producer's email box. It is the the worst show I have ever let my kids see. I grew up with H.R Puff'n Stuf and this is worse!!!!
A bit about the whole drug induced thing, which I don't think is the case for YGG because as far as I know the Aquabats and thus creator of YGG are religious and straight edge. Think of all of the drug induced shows and films we saw as kids. Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, etc. Man if it weren't for opium, pot, and LSD there would be a lot less crazy kids shows and movies. I am not into drugs whatsoever, but I can see the whole mind-expanding artist argument. Anyway, just a long prelude to my original story. My son loves YGG and is 3 years old and is also a major Beatles fan. He can identify each of them by voice and picture and tell you what instruments each one played. Just bought him the Yellow Submarine DVD, so YGG has fallen to a close second. Now there is some drug induced children's entertainment that is fun for the whole family. Darn Blue Meanies taking over Pepperland! BTW, Kudos on listening to the Ramones with the kids. My little guy loves, as he calls it, the "Hey! Ho! Song"

As for Yo Gabba Gabba, I was prepared to hate it based on the promos that ran for the month running up to the premiere. After watching it... it's kooky, original, non-formulaic, and fun. Remember fun? Kids used to be able to have fun without overbearing parents trying to force education on them. My two year old knows her letters, can read a few words, can count to twenty - accurately - and loves to sing and dance. Why? Because my wife and I TAUGHT her. We don't rely on TV for education. My daughter likes it for entertainment, and if a show whips a little education on the kids, so much the better.
You can do far, far worse than Yo Gabba Gabba, and oh my LORD all you people that say it should be canceled simply because it "annoys" you... you need to get a life. YOU annoy ME. That doesn't mean you should be "canceled", if you know what I mean.

Those who think this doesn't TEACH anything? Well, she shared her apple with me (usually she just yells no), and waited in line for the slide at the park all by singing the songs. Well i dont know about the rest of you but both my 3 year old, and 1 year old boys loves this show. They get up and dance, and try to clap along with DJ Lance. I think this is the best kids programming ever. Better than spongebob, or some of those other cartoons.

Ok, I LOVE reading all these comments. I have a Yo Gabba "theory" and I'm trying to figure out if it's a valid one. Though we (or i think most of us) are all Americans- there are OBVIOUS differences between taste and culture in different parts of the US. I'm originally from NY and now I live in VA and the differences in taste and culture are HUGE. And the opinions and tastes of East Coast peeps are much different than that of West Coast folks. And even West Coast peeps from SanFran and those from San Diego. I'm pretty sure YGG originated in SoCal- and the culture there is much different than that of an East Coast or Mid West type of mentality. So I wanna ask the ? cuz I'm curious to see. If you wanna help me with my theory, post what region of the country/ which state you are from and whether you are or are not a fan of Yo Gabba Gabba. :-) And if no one does it, then I'll just have to wonder forever:-)
I personally think that Yo Gabba Gaba is great it gets my 3 and 1 yearolds both up and dancing around. As to where we are at it's western MT. My boys are not that big on Dora or Diego. But backyardigains, Jacks big music show,or anything really musical like those, they are all for.
We are from east TN and the only thing about the show we don't like is... DJ Lance's hat. :) The rest of it is fine with us.

Ever since this show started previewing on Nick Jr., I was like "what the f*ck is this??" My husband and I let our daughter watch it, she seems interested in it and likes the songs. Now I can understand that life lessons are important and it's a good way to teach kids, but WOW. This show is soooooo creepy! It's like a show from the 60's came back from the dead and EVERYONE who is involved with the production of the show is TRIPPING THEIR BALLS OFF! Even the kids on the show are a tad off, from their names to what they're doing on the show?? I think I even saw a drunk tree in the the cardboard forest when the were cleaning up...seriously. I don't know, this show has good things about it, but I don't know about my daughter...it gives ME nightmares!! Who's approving this crap?
Honestly, my first reaction to this show was similar... my 2 year old had started wanting to watch Boobah and YGG is way better than that. Also, the reason I found this blog was actually because I wanted to find a place where I could thank those responsible for this show. It may be annoying to us adults, but it has TRULY effected my childs eating habits in a VERY positive way. There is no other show that has had such a positive effect on any of my 3 children. Therefor, despite the annoyingness... this is a GREAT show for children. The messages it tries to teach are effective and very positive.
I think the show looks funky. Just watched with my 1.5 years old daughter and she love it. Definenty better than Teletubbies. Hope it comes Europe soon or in dvd.
I think that this show is wonderful. It is so much less annoying than Dora, "say map" no really, "say map" ahhhh. This show is hip, interesting, and the music is modern. My two yr loves party in my tummy. I know that when kids get a chance to hear the highly inappropriate radio hip-hop they dig it and it makes them dance. IDK why they just do, this is a great substitute for that, especially if there are older sibling influences. I do not have cable but I saw this on demand at a friends and I am excited about a DVD in the future. It is Sesame Street for Cool Kids. Go Gabba Gabba
I just started reading these I can't believe how many kids shows there are in the world maybe all of parents should stop worrying about the TV, Noggin', Sprout, PBS, Tivo...ect. and take the TV away and go outside to play. I am single mother, a full-time student, and full-time employee and I feel terrible about relying on the TV to watch my daughter while do homework. This is my last semester and I think I will be putting away the DVDs after graduation for a long time. Wow.

When this show first came on i was like what the hell is this, what are they going to do next...But as odd as it is it will probably stay on for a while. I have an 18 month old son and he loves to watch this show. It's cool how they add a beat to make the kids want to eat their vegetables and brush their teeth. I watch it with him and sing along but i am kind of grossed out by the choice of characters...everytime i see that green thing i burst out laughing bc im like what is it?
Yo Gabba Gabba! is a superfun show with catchy little tunes. My little guy totally loves this show. Oh, and I qualify as old -- I'm 41. It reminds me of the '80s. I also happen to own some Pee-Wee Hermann DVDs and collectibles, so you can just write me up as a complete convert. Dancy dance dance dance dance dance!
i'm the grandmother of two toddlers 19 mos. and 3 yrs. i found the promos so annoying i refused to turn it on. my grandkids LOVE blue's clues and backyardigans. my daughter has banned dora for quite some time (my granddaughter was hiding things and saying "you'll never find it!" plus the fact dora wanders out of the house at all hours of the day and night!) however...today my granddaughter insisted (i think daddy turned it on) and we watched it. i just wanted to shoot myself. and it's so cheesy. the only redeeming quality would be to get kids up and moving...but my two just sat and watched. they both sing and dance with blue's clues and backyardigans. i am not turning it on again. i highly recommend some new pbs programs...super WHY! and wordworld. they love both of them. very educational.

I like many things about those cartoons. I like the style of comedy, I like the beauty of the art, I love the orchestrated music, I love the multi-level humor.
I don't think that every cartoon should/needs to "teach" things to our kids. I'm perfectly capable of teaching my kids good manners, life lessons, ABCs and 123s on my own.

This show is done by the Aquabats, and inspired by their experiences with their own kids. They wanted to create something that kids and parents could sit down and watch together and enjoy and sing along to. Personally, I think it harkens back to old shows like 'The Elephant Show' and (the slightly more adult) 'Muppet show'. Clearly the opinions of a lot of people here aren't shared by the mainstream, as they've gotten quite a line up of guest stars to help teach kids including Elijah Wood, Tony Hawk, The Salteens, Smoosh, Biz Markie and The Shins. They are teaching kids stuff as well, from art with Mark Mothersbaugh, to how to dance, to just little random tricks like hanging a spoon on your nose (I thought that was so amazing when I was a little kid.) So its a little off the normal, I personally think thats what makes it as charming as it is. This reminds me a lot of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, another great but weird show.
I absolutely love the show! My 2 year old has learned so much from this show. I TIVO'ed this show so my daughter can watch it when she wants and I have no problem with that. I think it's very educational. It promotes exercise with all the dancing. The characters are cute and funny and DJ Lance is a riot! I can't wait to throw my daughter a Yo Gabba Gabba birthday party!!
Dear Lactivist: If you were able to watch this show from a young childs mind you would not be so worked up about it. I'm afraid your missing the boat on this one. I hope your attitude is better than this if you are raising children. There is NO damaging behavior or questionable antics on this wonderful and original childens show. While other shows need to be examined closer. People praise the Wonder Pets yet it has a little Duck on it (ming ming I believe) that slurrs excagurated baby talk to a point where I had to tell my little one not to emmulate it. BAD. THAT is descriptive and constructive critizism. NOT YOU. You just babble on about how it freaks you out and (politically incorreclty) attatch it to forein countries. I have nothing against you. I kept seeing the previews for the show and the party in my tummy song had me interested in letting my 21 month old daughter watching it. She instantly loved the show and I set my DVR to record the episodes for her. But the more I watched this show with her, the more disturbed I became. It gives me a funny feeling inside. I told my mother about it and she told me not to let her watch the show anymore. The show doesn't teach children anything. I think the songs TRY to teach kids to try new foods and clean up and things like that. But they end up being meaningless. Dora has taught my daughter how to count to ten and she isn't even 2 years old yet. This show has taught my daughter nothing.
When I first saw the show my first reaction was WTF is this??? I have come to the conclustion that some old raver that was trippin on Acid came up with this show. and OMG the creepy guy with the glasses that draws the pictures looks like a total pervo! Me and my 7 month old daughter have been sucked into the show and she loves to do the hold still... and wiggle dance! But this show is starting to grow on me a little, it is way better then stupid @ss Dora and Deigo. I really HATE the Wonder Pets, there was an episode on the other day where they had to rescuse a dog so it could go pee and the whole episode had songs about pee! It really grossed me out!
I think this show is terrific. The only thing that really bothers me is the way DJ lance looks into the camera with this glossy look at the beginning of the show.
It kind of reminds me of a watered down version of Pancake Mountain, if anyone is familiar with that gem of a show!

Yo Gabba Gabba has almost been a Godsend to me. My 15 mo old is going thru the clingy, don't want mommy out of my sight stage and when this show comes on I can actually get things done around the house. As for teaching things, it certainly does IN MY OPINION. My son is learning an appreciation of music and expanding his vocabulary with all the repetition in the show. Whatever negative things are taught, I believe it is MY JOB to curtail those habits from forming. shouldn't it be yours?

1.) I never said it teaches anything negative.
2.) If it did, I'd simply not let my kids watch it. Why in the WORLD would I allow them to watch something I think teaches negative things and then do the work of "curtailing those habits?" That's just silly.
3.) We do not have Nick, so we couldn't watch it (or ignore it) even if we wanted to.

In our opinion, this is the BEST kids show on TV. Our 11 month old LOVES it. She dances in place and rocks along to the beat. She especially loves when they show those little snippets of kids saying "my names Delaney! I like to dance!" and swinging on vines as characters in Atari style games. We all love dancey dance time and do the moves in the living room. We are so happy to FINALLY have a show that appeals to the whole family, that is hip, fresh, gets kids out of their seat, and dancing to the beat. We love it! PS I teach first grade and we sing the Banana song every day just for fun...the whole class loves it.
OMG...i seriously get freaked out. mostly because the characters in costume remind me of a dave chapelle skit on STD's. sesame street has done this lifesize costumed character crap to death. i have three kids and if it isnt spongebob or dora they want no part of it. does anyone see that this show would literally only be 6 minutes long but they repeat everything 4 times each to stretch it out to a half hour episode. I have a son who is almost three who has Cerebral Palsy and he loves this show. Seeing the show makes him get up and move and that is so good for him. Who knew this show could give him so much therapy. I am having trouble finding the show on DVD. Does anyone know where I could find it.
my 22 month old LOVES this show. She (and I both) hated the show at 1st, but now we think it's the best show on tv. All I have to say is "YOOOO GABBA GABBAAAAA" and she starts dancing and laughing. Thanks you for having so many cool bands and guests on!!!
I, too, thought that this show seemed disturbing at first. Listen, sometimes I need my baby (and at times my older kids) to "just chill". They do that when this comes on (even when they dance along, it's better than arguing/crying). I like the messages they sing in the songs (it's all right to be sad, use teamwork, don't judge others, etc). It's much more annoying to have a crabby kid who isn't happy unless she's held 24/7. She gets very happy and even dances when YGG comes on, and isn't it great that a show encourages being active and eating healthful foods? At least kids are learning things while they watch, and they love the show. Of course, my children also get a healthy dose of PBS Kids as well. Bottom line is, these shows are intended for kids, not adults, so who cares if we find them simply annoying? They ae good for the kids, and that's who they're designed for. Not us. Sometimes being a parent means making sacrifices.
Everybody is just too uptight here.The show is very funny, entertaining for even my 6 month old...I can't tell you how much cleaning I've been able to do lately! There is nothing provacative or malicious about it,a little strange yes but it stands out from Blues Clues or Dora,it's colorful, musical and I think it's great Biz and Tony Hawk would take time out to entertain our kids.
Mom's, relax, theyre not running around with knives or teaching our kids how to make bombs...don't take something away from your kid just because your not into it,just me but it's pretty selfish.

My just turned 3 yrs old daughter love this show. The songs are very catchy and yes, once you hear the songs, they will forever get stuck in your head. It's a great bonding time for us, we both dances and she knows all the words to the songs. I gotta admit, I prefer this show over Dora and Barney. My daughter's favorite episodes are "Halloween" and "Fun". She knows that "too much candy will make you soooo sick". She makes her 7 yr old brother, dad, and I sing "You gotta jump, shake, shimmy them out". It's a great family bonding. To jump, shake, shimmy in our living room is wonderful.
My 11mth old already loves this show. I was so dreading that he might make me watch some of the other horrid shows that my friends had warned me about. And thank goodness i have this original soul of a baby boy who started clapping and swaying when he first saw it. I'm so excited to see some original stuff on kids TV!!!

This show is a horrible nod to the 80's with its Atari graphics and giant "getto blaster.". I feel kind of dirty and uneasy when I watch it. Could they find creepier people to appear on the show? Has anyone seen the episode with the guys from Supernova and Aquabats? There is nothing like a 40 year old man in a skin tight jump suit. UGH!!Does anyone on the show have any talent? I realize the show is intended for kids, but I just can't handle it.
My daughter (2 1/2) loves this show and actually mentions it when she is falling asleep ! it seems to be alot better than that horribly painful spongebob ! i just ought the stuffed animals for my daughter, too. Is that terrible?

I am not quite sure what you base it on when you say it should come from either the Netherlands or Iceland, that seems pretty random. But I take it as a compliment. I wish I had invented the show , it is great. It might have a funny little way to some, but to associate a child program to drugs is pretty crazy, it is just about fun I guess. Plus they have awesome musicians as guests, which shows me good taste and I'd be more then happy to pass that on to my children! What's wrong with a little bit of imagination?

I seem to recall that Bjork is from Iceland. I'm also pretty sure "Lazy Town," the popular Nick Jr. show is filmed in Iceland, though it may be in Norway or Sweden. I think it was Iceland though.

This show just makes me sick, I can't even watch the commercials for it. I don't see how any parent could alow their children to watch it. I think that any parent who allows their children to watch this show is just doing it so the child will be entertained, thus giving the parent free time. This is a selfish act, I'd rather turn the t.v. off and read my child a book. Oh and by the way I have no clue what the host is, male? female?, please tell me it's a female, because alot of kids out there are gonna be confused if it's a male.
Actually, little kids love the show. Dure, it's kind of kooky, but it entertains them...and it is very creative-- it has the 80's video game feel. And for the record, my tiny kids read every day-- children can be inspired in other ways. Television is not detrimental. Of course they should not watch all day, or even a few hours, but 30 minutes is perfectly acceptable. Television is inspiring, and documents passing time and our culture in a way no other medium can. If you don't believe me, watch Mary Tyler Moore, thirtysomething, My So-Called Lif and marvel at how our culture at that time has been captured forever. And intelligently!
It is certainly ok not to like a show like this, and to refuse to allow your children to see it. I think thats the greatest thing about media. You pick and choose what appeals to you and your family. However it is also ok to recognize that while it is simply not for you, it may indeed be for others. GET OVER IT!!!

It was not meant for the mainstream homogenized schlock that comes in the form of Barney, Dora, the Wiggles, etc. I respect that many of you will avoid this show like the plague, but you should also respect that it gets some other families going. My son of 17 months watches barely a half hour of tv every few days, but this is one we allow. He loves it... jumps around, dances, rolls on the floor, laughs, and one day when he actually can comprehend exactly what their saying I believe he will learn valuable lessons from it.

lol...this show is not bad for kids! now i must admit when i first saw the show I thought it was weird, but my two year old daughter loves it...she knows how to put on her pajamas and how to take a nap because of this show! its fun and educational for her...the show is not for grown-ups obviously!
Are you kidding ME? I LOVE YO Gabba Gabba!!! So does my daughter 2 1/2. We watch it all of the time. Thankfully my parents didn't see the Smurfs as something weird and not let me watch it. Kid pop culture is always changing- just stay open minded and use it to connect with your kids. I loved watching the Smurfs with my dad on Saturday mornings and eating pancakes. Glad he hung with me and my brother to make these memories. Ya'll need to lighten up and let your kids enjoy being kids. They could be watching a LOT worse.

Clearly those of you who do not like this show, do not have children of your own. This is a wonderful show to encourage little children.

We all dance to them and it finally got my little one to want to give hugs because they have a song that says open arms up wide wrap them around squeeze tight hugs are fun hugs are fun hugs are fun. I am from NJ and Noggin is always on my TV. When YGG first came on Nick JR. my 2 yo was hooked. I wish it was on more. Whenever he hears the music inbetween shows he stops whatever he is doing and watches it.. He wants a YGG birthday party but I cannot find party stuff for it anywhere. 4 thumbs up for YGG!!!

I actually found this post by searching, trying to find videos of one of the YGG episodes.. "sleep".
If I can learn to sing, or add recordings of; "naptime", "think happy thoughts", and "dreams" to my daughters lullaby CD, I'm thinking naptime would be a more pleasant experience for the both of us.
"Dreams" would be so much prettier if not sung in the character voices though.

Max is a brat, Ruby is bossy, they have a grandma in another house, but no mom or dad.
My husband says Ruby is actually Max's mommy.. poor teenage parent.. but they use the 'sister' and 'grandma' fiction to be socially accepted.
My 2 year old is ridiculously addicted to this show! Forget watching any other shows, even Blue's Clues his former addiction. We literally have to limit the time he watches this show every day; 2 episodes when he wakes up and 2 before bed. The wife is a stay at home mom so this is all the TV he gets, as he will turn off Dora, Diego or any other show to watch it. And when I say turn off, I mean it. He knows how to work the Tivo so he can get to the shows that are saved! Forget the fact that I might be watching something at the time...
While there is some strangeness to the show (especially DJ Lance Rock), the show is different than any show out there. As a 40-something parent, I can appreciate the 80's feel to it (Atari-like graphics, Biz Markie, Mark Mothersbaugh), but I'm not sure why they chose it since most younger parents probably don't have the same appreciation.
Overall, I can tolerate it, unlike some other shows, like the Wonder Pets (thews an animaw in twoble!). And I totally agree with Robert that the exaggerated baby talk is not only not cute but a very bad example for children when they are learning to talk.
I had access to the pilot of YGG before it aired and was blown away by the creativity and quirkiness of it. And my 2 year old absolutely loved it!! What can I say, she loves to dance and jump around to it and I can get my aerobics in as well!
I threw my daughter a YGG party and it was a blast! We printed the iron-ons from the nick jr. website and made t-shirts for all the kids. For the gift bags, I bought bags in the characters colors and glued their pics on them. Also, large sheet cake to resemble their landscape and printed the backdrop from the website. They have coloring books, masks and a few other things.
I'm lucky enough to know DJ Lance Rock (he is my brother's friend and an amazing person) and he showed up to do a dance party with the kids and they went completely NUTS!!!!!!
My 2 year old was dancing and laughing her little head off! It was fantastic!

My baby son is learning a TON from Yo Gabba Gabba...I really honestly can't believe some of you are so very naive that you see 1 video clip and are making snap judgements.
It took me awhile to warm up as well. It actually TEACHES children without some evil underlying religious mumbo jumbo (don't gear me toward your religion and I won't gear you toward mine, thanks).
It teaches kids about KID things. My son is speaking because of this show. DJ Lance Rock comes on and my baby lights up like he's got fireworks in his eyes.
A few fabulous lessons this show teaches (with some totally groovy Indie-type rock kickin' beats)
"Theres a party in my tummy" (teaches children to make good food choices
"Don't bite your friends" (you know how many PARENTS should teach their kids this???)
"I like bugs" (helps kids not to be afraid of bugs...typical for children)
"Move" (get up offa your asses, obesity-threatened new generation babies!)
"Cars" (teaches safety in cars - very smart)
...and so much more. Biz Markie also gets my boy laughing and actually TRYING to do Biz's Beat of the Day...the baby is only 1 year.
I applaud this show with it's important lessons and how it relates to kids on a KIDS level. I hope it's around for many, many more seasons.
It's also completely and fantastically POSITIVE...for those of you who are afraid it's dark and scary or whatever other mumbo I read before I responded. My hubby and I actually find ourselves singing the songs. Fabulous!
Oh and one more comment...to someone who said those who don't appreciate the show must be over 30...
...I've made it very clear that I LOVE this show and I'm 34. :) *winks* In fact, I think most of my generation totally digs it. A group of our friends were singing the songs walking through a theme park a few months ago (with no children in tow, by the way).
Also...to any of you who seem to not understand how children learn, they learn through repetition. That's whey the show's songs are so repetitive. It's very well put together. Our favorite shows are "Sleep", "Eat", "Love" and "Dance".
It's also like a variety show. There are different cartoons, different songs, bands, instruments, and that Mark dude from Divo who draws...awesome.

My 6 month old LOVES this show and has been watching it for months! We sit in bed every morning, as a family, and watch DJ Lance teach us something new and exciting about the world. We love that we found a show for children that promotes indie music, basic decency and good behavior lessons. Don't bite your friends.

I agree 100% with everything Lactivist said. No I'm not in my 30's or don't have a kid, I'm 24. Those that are popping in and out saying "get a life" are doing the same thing that other are which is commenting on a blog. This can be accessed by millions of people. Your just wasting the time of others reading it.
My in-laws love the Yo Gabba Gabba show and have all of them saved on the DVR for they're grandkids to watch.
Everyone will have a different opinion and some more passionate than others. The whole purpose of a blog is to read about those that different opinions and ways of thinking.
I would just like to say that Yo Gabba Gabba is a great show that teaches children a lot of useful everyday things. My son loves to dance with the characters and sing with the music bands. Besides Biz being on the show they have a lot of other famous people that you mothers may identify with better. Sugarland was on Elija Wood and even Leila Ali. It is a very good show and you should be more open minded.
it's actually cute, lots of music with fun beats and simple lessons, it's my 1 year old's favorite show, she tells me "gabba gabba" and points at the tv, and she gets very excited when i let her watch it in the morning
This is a decent children's show. Nothing is "freaky" about it. My nephews love it, and I think it's pretty cute.

This program is extremely disturbing on many levels. From the first advertisement Noggin ran for this compilation of non-educational refuse, my daughter has run screaming and crying from the room because of the "monsters". Next they introduced a steady barrage of ads that can only be escaped by turning off the television (guess what I do). I suppose they think that by repeatedly forcing the rubbish down our throats at every break during the day children will be brainwashed into liking it. Not likely, instead we've basically banned Noggin and Nick Jr. from our home. Not that we watched that much TV before, but really must EVERY BREAK contain ads for the “monsters” that so frighten my child and other children I know as well? Give us a break. Even when channel surfing if we stop at Noggin, nine times out of ten, there is yet another ad for this disgusting conglomeration on and my daughter runs screaming and crying from the room.
People have actually posted here that they let their kids watch this for entertainment because they “just need a break”. That is a purely selfish reason to abandon your child. If you don’t want to deal with your child or need a break, put them in daycare, join a playgroup or participate in “ Mothers Day Out” where they will at least get minimal human interaction while you take your break. Don’t just dump them in from of the electronic babysitter and have no clue what the program is teaching, or worse, not teaching your child. Grow up, take some responsibility for that precious snowflake you are supposedly raising and spend some time with your child, AWAY FROM THE TV. You’d be amazed at the difference, really.
To put my opinion of this conglomeration of rubbish in little words that the people who are praising YGG can understand “IT SUCKS”. By the way, letting kids less than 2 years old watch TV all day because you need a break, great parenting skills there. Thank you for proving my point far more effectively than I ever could by admitting to the world you let the electronic babysitter teach your child everything from birth. I bet those of you with children under 2 that are posting how your child watches this rubbish here tell the pediatrician that your child doesn’t watch any TV when they ask don’t you. No wonder so many children these days have no respect, no manners and no concept of personal responsibility. They have only the TV to teach them and it doesn’t.
I'm a day care provider and I have to say the only show that keeps these children quiet and focused is Yo Gabba Gabba. At first I thought to myself "Wow... This is creepy and stupid." Now I think it's totally cute and it teaches children about so many things like dancing, caring, sharing, and being different. Although some of the scenes make me think the artists were baked when they made it.
But I approve!

So I just have to let you know that I googled "Iceland" and "extended breastfeeding" and I ended up reading this particular blog. Here I am, an American married to an Icelander in Ohio and we may be moving to Iceland for a few years and I was trying to figure out if anyone in Iceland practiced extended breastfeeding. (I will need some major support while I'm there) I just about laughed out loud when I found this. For the record, I have never even seen Yo Gabba Gabba, so I can't comment on whether or not it in similar to Icelandic kids' shows. But if you ever want to make a comparison, we have at least 20 Icelandic DVDs right here in our house in Ohio! lmao!

Well, I personally don't care for the show, but my 1 year old son loves it! He sits there mesmerized by it! SO I put up with it since it's the only show he really likes. We've tried Blues Clues, the Backyardigans and Dora, but he doesn't watch those at all when they're on. For some reason, he only likes Yo Gabba Gabba! Maybe it's those annoying songs!

YGG has got to be THE WORST kids show ever made. At least most shows seem to know that older people are generally being forced to watch the same crap, and therefore add jokes or tidbits here and there to keep the +6 yr olds from stabbing themselves in the head, ex: Peep, Wonder pets, etc.. YGG doesn't do any of that. I have watched this lame show (unfortunately) many times now, and I still don't really know what the monsters' names are due to the fact that their mouths don't move, and they never spell them out during the show (except, of course during the tiny, light speed credits, which I never want to get up and move close enough to check). The songs are friggen lame, the kids that "dance" look like they're on hallucinogens, and the monsters could be better designed by a 5-yr old. They could have made this show cute, but all it does is make an acid-trip seem kid-friendly. Have you ever seen the "germs" or "ball-friends" depicted on this show? It could give ME nightmares! All I can think of while I watch this is:If THIS crap can make it on the air, god, WHAT ELSE CAN???
Yo Gabba Gabba is my favorite show. My daughter has been in love with it ever since she was 9 months old. She will watch it from begining to end. I care for my three year old nephew on a regular basis(I'm his YaYa). I also do not like Sponge Bob. We teach our children with everything we do. The show is a show. I don't mean to get all Jerry Fallwel (ie: Tinkie Winkies purse)on you, But I can't keep a straight face when a one eyed dildo is dancing around ala Barney! ;}

Yo Gabba Gabba is a wonderful show full of bright animated characters, simple songs that are easy to sing along to within the first hearing, cute life lessons for a TODDLERS(not meant for you dumb adults-duh its a kids show!) If you cant appreciate someones INTELLIGENT ARTISTIC VIEW FROM A CHILD'S PERSPECTIVE, what creativity and originlnality are you passing down to your child?? Go ahead raise a child who can only see through your eyes, a critical, unimaginative, judging child...cause that's exactly what this world needs(and i hope my kids never end up in a public school with kids like you are raising!)! Parents get a life and let your kids be free to have some fun...

Well there's something really weird about this show that I am trying to figure out.
This is the only show that my 17 month old would watch the whole time without getting up or moving around, which is relly weird because he is very active. it's like he is hypnotized. I don't know what's going on when he is watching this show...
The show is really weird, first dj lance is like the sun, take a look the way he goes up and there's a sun in his hat. Also his hat is orange, is that a coincidence?
He is also like their god that has power to give them life.

Plex, the robot is another weird character, he is the smartest one in the show, and he has power as well. plus he is always telling the other characters when things are right or wrong, is it possible that a robot can be smarter than the other creatures?
